Overview
- Chainlink will use its Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) to move tokenized value across blockchains and its Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE) to coordinate end-to-end payment workflows between Bottomline and multiple public and private chains.
- Bottomline will make that single, network-agnostic connection available to its customers so banks can route settlement to blockchains without replacing their existing ISO 20022 payment messaging.
- The integration creates a technical path into Bottomline’s large network, which the companies say serves hundreds of banks and processes reported annual payments in the trillions, but access does not force any bank to use blockchain settlement.
- Neither firm disclosed when the link will enter production, how much payment volume will move onchain, or which Bottomline customers will participate, leaving real-world adoption and impact to be demonstrated.
- The deal builds on Chainlink’s push into institutional finance and precedents such as Project Pangea and prior SWIFT tests, and it could speed cross-border tokenized settlement if individual banks choose to adopt the new rails.
