Chad Orders Expulsion of German Envoy Over Criticism of Military Rule

Chad's military government expelled Germany's ambassador after he criticized the junta for delaying a return to democracy.
The expulsion order came 48 hours after the government accused the ambassador of "interfering" in Chad's affairs and showing a "lack of respect for diplomatic customs."
Germany said the reasons for the expulsion were unclear, but a spokesman for Chad's government said the ambassador's comments were seen as an attempt to "divide" the country.
Chad's military seized power after the death of the longtime president in 2021 and has postponed elections, originally promised within 18 months, until late 2024.
