Chaco Prosecutors to Issue Cecilia Strzyzowski Death Certificate and Return Ashes After Jury Convictions

Prosecutors say the move will formalize recognition of the crime as femicide ahead of a Nov. 26 sentencing hearing.

Overview

  • Procurador General Jorge Canteros announced that a death certificate will be issued for Strzyzowski and that ashes recovered from the Río Tragadero will be offered to her mother, Gloria Romero.
  • The prosecution will ask Judge Dolly Fernández to record the official cause of death as femicide in the civil registry.
  • A popular jury found six of seven defendants guilty, convicting César Sena of homicide aggravated by the relationship and gender-based violence, and naming his parents, Emerenciano Sena and Marcela Acuña, as primary participants.
  • Gustavo Obregón and Fabiana González were found guilty of aggravated concealment, Gustavo Melgarejo of simple concealment, and Griselda Reynoso was acquitted.
  • Forensic testimony said bone fragments tied to the case were calcined after exposure to temperatures above 800°C for three to seven hours, evidence that proved decisive at trial.
