Overview

  • The CGPJ plenary approved 509 new judicial units nationwide, of which 195 have been marked as urgent to address a decade-long rise in pending cases.
  • Catalunya is slated to receive the largest share with 109 units, including 34 classified as high priority, followed by Andalucía (31) and Madrid (29).
  • Regional breakdowns show Galicia will gain 21 new posts (4 urgent), Murcia 18 (9 urgent) and Castilla y León 13 (3 urgent), highlighting uneven caseload pressures.
  • The proposal builds on January’s Efficiency Law, which consolidated lower courts into Tribunales de Instancia and expanded specialized jurisdictions, intensifying staffing needs.
  • Next steps call for the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Cortes to review the plan for inclusion in the 2025 judicial budget and implementation schedule.
