CG Semi Pilot in Sanand Starts Production, Paving Way for India’s First Made-in-India Chip

The line will serve customer qualification ahead of a larger commercial plant planned to scale output under the India Semiconductor Mission.

Overview

  • IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the first chip from the pilot will roll out soon and will be dedicated by the prime minister.
  • CG Semi’s G1 OSAT pilot began production in Sanand with peak capacity of about 0.5 million chips per day, part of a ₹7,600 crore project with Renesas and Stars Microelectronics.
  • The G2 commercial unit is under construction for completion by late 2026, with combined G1–G2 capacity targeted at roughly 15 million chips per day and full-scale operations expected by 2027.
  • Micron’s ATMP pilot in Gujarat is expected around December 2025–January 2026, with Kaynes and Tata projects also progressing in the state.
  • Under the India Semiconductor Mission, 10 projects across six states have approvals totaling about ₹1.6 lakh crore, alongside talent programs involving ~270 universities and multiple taped‑out institutional chip designs.
