CFTOD Seeks Three-Year Extension to Finish World Drive North Phase 3

Landscaping is scheduled to start in late 2027, a timing the district says makes the current permit window too short.

Overview

  • The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District filed a formal request with the South Florida Water Management District on Monday, November 2, 2026, asking to move the permit deadline from December 2, 2026 to December 2, 2029.
  • The filing says crews have made significant progress: most utility relocations are complete and work on the final roundabout and the last pavement surfaces is underway.
  • The district is seeking a minor design modification to leave 0.16 acres of existing Floridian Way pavement in place instead of removing 0.82 acres, and engineers report nearby stormwater capacity will not need changes.
  • World Drive North Phase 3 will widen the road from just south of Seven Seas Drive to Maple Road, running beside Magic Kingdom parking and linking to World Drive Phase 2 and the Floridian Way project, work that has been visible to resort visitors.
  • The permit extension and pavement change are now pending SFWMD review, and a regulator decision will determine whether final paving, roundabout work and late-2027 landscaping proceed on the extended schedule into 2029.
