Overview
- The CFIA issued a recall on June 10 for three salami products including Rea Genoa Salami Sweet and Hot and Bona Mild Genova Salami distributed in Alberta, Ontario and Manitoba.
- Health agencies have linked these products to 57 confirmed salmonella illnesses—44 in Alberta and 13 in Ontario—with seven people hospitalized and no fatalities reported.
- Many of those infected reported eating the recalled salami in prepared sandwiches or deli-counter purchases.
- Symptoms include fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps and diarrhea, which typically resolve within a week in healthy individuals.
- Consumers are urged to check for affected UPC codes, stop consumption and return or discard the products as the CFIA’s investigation continues and may expand the recall.
