CFE to End Summer Power Subsidy Nov. 1, Raising Bills for High-Use Homes in 9 States

The seasonal discount designed to ease summer cooling demand lapses, shifting eligible homes to regular pricing until the program resumes in spring.

Overview

  • The subsidy, known as the Doméstico de Alto Consumo summer rate, ends on November 1 in Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Sonora, Nuevo León, Sinaloa, Nayarit and Tamaulipas.
  • Households that exceed the CFE’s average consumption thresholds should expect higher November bills, while moderate users are expected to see charges similar to last year.
  • For 2025 the support window ran from April 1 through October 31 to offset costs during extreme heat and heavy air-conditioning use.
  • CFE says the seasonal program is set to reactivate next year beginning in April, with timing varying by region.
  • To limit increases, the utility advises checking monthly kWh against zone limits, unplugging idle devices, using natural light, maintaining air conditioners and replacing inefficient appliances.
