CFE Awards 7,411 MW in Mixed-Development Power Contracts

The move jump-starts a public–private push to add capacity while leaving a strong solar tilt and no announced construction start dates.

Overview

  • CFE published final results on Monday, June 8, 2026, awarding 7,411 megawatts across 37 projects to 31 private developers as part of its mixed-development contracting round.
  • The awards were heavily skewed to photovoltaic power with about 6,710 MW accepted, roughly 700 MW for wind and no capacity granted for the 100 MW solar‑thermal target.
  • Adjudications concentrated in the Yucatán Peninsula and Mexico’s northeast, which together won 20 of the 37 projects while several regions remained undersubscribed.
  • At least 46 submitted projects were declared desiertos for reasons that include transmission network saturation, technical infeasibility, financial shortfalls and offers with high internal rates of return.
  • The package implies roughly $7.4 billion of investment using IRENA benchmarks, CFE has not set construction start dates, and remaining volume will be offered in a follow‑up permit‑priority call.
