CFE and Yucatán Municipalities Formalize Plan to Reinforce Distribution Network
Municipal action plans will reduce outages to support the drive for full electrification by 2028.
Overview
- The CFE met with 12 municipal presidents on July 23 and 24 to set local priorities and extend the Mesa Permanente de Coordinación so municipalities have direct, recurring channels to request and track works.
- Officials reported more than MXN 700 million spent across 2025–2026, with the CFE citing 174 projects and +50 MVA in 2025 and plans for 297 projects, 204 distribution transformers and substation expansions in 2026.
- The utility has already doubled transformation capacity in Progreso from 30 to 60 MVA and purchased land for a Conkal substation to serve the Cholul corridor and north Mérida.
- Local leaders pressed for pole replacement, transformer reviews, line re-routing and pruning programs to cut interruptions during peak tourist seasons and the hurricane period, and CFE agreed to prepare community-level attention plans.
- Follow-up sessions will continue as the program scales to all 106 municipalities, with a review meeting set for late August–early September to update priorities and measure progress toward 100% electrification by 2028.
