Overview
- The Cessna 172 came down in a grass field near Carrigeen, Mooncoin, at about 12:40pm while returning toward Waterford.
- Atlantic Flight Training Academy said the instructor and student were uninjured, were assessed on site, and later returned to their Waterford base.
- The pilot reported a rough-running engine, informed Waterford Air Traffic Control, and executed a precautionary landing in line with standard procedures north of the airport.
- Irish Coast Guard Rescue 117, gardaĆ, fire crews, and ambulance services attended, and the scene was preserved for an Air Accident Investigation Unit inquiry.
- This was the second light-aircraft incident in the area in just over two weeks, following a November 20 crash near Waterford that killed pilot Bircan Dokuzlar, which remains under investigation.
