Century of Royal Portraits to Be Exhibited in Edinburgh
The King's Gallery at the Palace of Holyroodhouse will showcase over 90 historic photographs spanning from the 1920s to King Charles III's coronation in 2023.
- The exhibition, 'Royal Portraits: A Century of Photography,' will run from February 28 to September 7, 2025, at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.
- It features over 90 vintage prints and documents from the Royal Collection and Royal Archives, many displayed in Scotland for the first time.
- Highlights include iconic works by Cecil Beaton, Andy Warhol, and Annie Leibovitz, as well as milestone birthday portraits of Princess Anne and Prince Charles.
- The earliest color photograph of a royal, taken in 1935 by Madame Yevonde, and Queen Elizabeth II’s 1953 coronation portraits will be on display.
- Curator Alessandro Nasini promises visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of these photographs, including archival correspondence and unreleased proofs.
