Centre’s Fertiliser Crackdown Logs 3.17 Lakh Inspections, 4,298 Licence Actions and 547 FIRs

The crackdown used statutory powers under the Essential Commodities Act with the Fertiliser Control Order to safeguard supply during peak KharifRabi demand.

Overview

  • Authorities conducted 317,054 inspections and raids across India during the April–November 2025 enforcement phase.
  • Across black marketing, hoarding and diversion cases, officials issued 8,777 show-cause notices that resulted in 4,298 licence suspensions or cancellations and 547 FIRs.
  • Category breakdowns included 5,119 notices for black marketing, 667 for hoarding and 2,991 for diversion, with actions taken under national control laws.
  • State drives were led by Uttar Pradesh with 28,273 inspections, 1,957 black-marketing notices, 2,730 licence actions and 157 FIRs, while Maharashtra logged 42,566 inspections with 1,000-plus licence cancellations for diversion, Rajasthan recorded 11,253 inspections and Bihar nearly 14,000 with 500-plus suspensions.
  • In a parallel quality push, teams issued 3,544 notices over substandard fertiliser, leading to 1,316 licence actions and 60 FIRs, supported by sampling, testing, digital stock dashboards and rapid redirection of seized supplies to cooperatives.
