Centre Unveils DMIL, MRTS Nodal Setup and TOD Revamp at Urban Mobility India

The package sets a near-term rollout for reforms that aim to make city travel more seamless.

Overview

  • Delhi Metro International Limited will be set up to act as the MoHUA nodal arm for consultancy, construction, turnkey, management, and O&M projects in India and abroad.
  • A separate Delhi Metro subsidiary will support nationwide planning, coordination and management of Mass Rapid Transit Systems for the ministry.
  • The government announced a Delhi Metro Rail Academy and a Centre of Excellence to expand training capacity and foster innovation in metro operations.
  • Delhi’s revamped transit-oriented development policy is slated within a month, allowing high-rise projects within 500–800 metres of metro corridors and direct station links via skywalks or tunnels.
  • Policy design is underway for pod taxis and ropeways and for premium seating with differential fares, while 10,000 e-buses will be deployed under PM e-Bus Sewa with 100 for Gurugram, and a cabinet note is ready to extend RRTS beyond the NCR.
