Centre Sets Oct. 6 Ladakh Talks in Delhi as Stalled Dialogue Resumes

Talks resume after a four-month pause with Ladakhi groups set to press statehood plus Sixth Schedule safeguards.

Overview

  • The Ministry of Home Affairs has scheduled the High-Powered Committee meeting for 11 am on October 6 at Kartavya Bhavan-3 in New Delhi with MHA officials and leaders from the Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance.
  • The committee will be chaired by Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai and will include seven-member delegations each from LAB and KDA alongside senior Ladakh and MHA officials.
  • LAB says its seven-member slate is finalized and apolitical, led by veteran leader Thupstan Chhewang, with UT Congress chief Nawang Rigzin Jora replaced by advocate Thinles Angmo.
  • LAB has requested that Union Home Minister Amit Shah lead the engagement and proposed Leh as the venue, though the meeting remains set for New Delhi under Rai.
  • While domicile rules and major reservation measures were settled in May–June, Ladakh leaders say the unresolved priorities for this round are statehood and Sixth Schedule protections, with protests and a prolonged hunger strike continuing to apply pressure.
