Overview
- The 25.72 km line has an estimated cost of ₹764.19 crore, including ₹166 crore for land to be borne by the Railways.
- The project was sanctioned on October 27, and the Railways wrote to the Punjab chief secretary on October 28 to start acquisition, with no response reported yet.
- The link is projected to cut the Ferozepur–Amritsar rail distance from about 196 km to roughly 100 km and shorten the Jammu–Ferozepur–Fazilka–Mumbai corridor by 236 km.
- The alignment creates an alternate corridor near the India–Pakistan border to speed movement of defence personnel, equipment and supplies.
- About 166 hectares across 12 villages in Ferozepur and Tarn Taran are required, and officials have asked the state to appoint officers to set prices and procure the land.
