Overview

• The Home Ministry issued three notifications extending AFSPA for six months from October 1, 2025, unless withdrawn earlier.
• Manipur was declared a disturbed area statewide except for 13 police-station jurisdictions across five valley districts, including key areas of Imphal.
• In Nagaland, AFSPA will cover Dimapur, Niuland, Chumoukedima, Mon, Kiphire, Noklak, Phek, Peren and Meluri, plus 21 police-station limits in Kohima, Mokokchung, Longleng, Wokha and Zunheboto.
• Arunachal Pradesh renewals include Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts, as well as the Namsai, Mahadevpur and Chowkham police stations in Namsai district bordering Assam.
• The 1958 law grants armed forces broad search, arrest and use-of-force powers with protection from prosecution, a measure maintained as Manipur remains under President’s Rule following deadly ethnic violence.
