Centre Releases Rs 1,091 Crore First XV-FC Untied Grants to West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh

The move strengthens grassroots governance by giving village bodies flexible funding for locally identified priorities under the Eleventh Schedule.

Overview

  • The government disbursed Rs 680.71 crore to West Bengal on October 6 for 3,224 gram panchayats, 335 block panchayats and 21 zilla parishads for 2025–26.
  • Andhra Pradesh received Rs 410.76 crore covering 13 district panchayats, 650 block panchayats and 13,092 eligible gram panchayats out of 13,327.
  • Untied grants can be used across 29 subjects excluding salaries and establishment costs, while tied grants are earmarked for sanitation, ODF upkeep and drinking-water-related works including rainwater harvesting and recycling.
  • For West Bengal, cumulative releases across 2024–25 and 2025–26 total Rs 4,181.23 crore, comprising Rs 2,082.13 crore in untied grants and Rs 2,099.10 crore in tied grants.
  • A separate Rs 151 crore health grant was released to West Bengal to equip rural sub-centres with diagnostic infrastructure, alongside ministry tools such as SabhaSaar, SVAMITVA, eGramSwaraj and Gram Manchitra to improve planning and transparency.
