Centre Releases Over Rs 342 Crore in First FY26 Untied Grants to Assam, Tamil Nadu

The first FY26 tranche reflects the XV Finance Commission process with Finance Ministry release based on recommendations from Panchayati Raj plus Jal Shakti.

Overview

  • Assam received Rs 214.54 crore covering all 2,192 eligible Gram Panchayats, 156 eligible Block Panchayats and 27 eligible Zilla Parishads.
  • Tamil Nadu was allotted Rs 127.59 crore for 2,901 eligible Gram Panchayats, 74 eligible Block Panchayats and 9 eligible District Panchayats.
  • Untied grants fund location-specific priorities but cannot be used for salaries or other establishment costs.
  • Tied grants target basic services such as sanitation, maintenance of ODF status, household-waste and fecal-sludge management, drinking-water supply, rainwater harvesting and water recycling.
  • XV-FC grants are issued in two instalments each financial year, with last month’s tranche exceeding Rs 284 crore for Mizoram, Odisha and Tripura.
