Centre Orders Uniform 25-Day LPG Booking Interval for All Domestic Users

The petroleum ministry said easing supply and falling refill backlogs justify an immediate instruction to state-run OMCs to restore the shorter booking cycle.

Overview

  • The ministry on Monday directed Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum to apply a single 25-day inter-refill booking interval for all domestic LPG customers, effective immediately.
  • The move ends the temporary split introduced in February 2026 that let urban customers book after 25 days while rural customers waited 45 days to manage severe supply pressure.
  • Minister of State Suresh Gopi published a ministry letter dated September 7 that instructs OMCs to implement the change and said the backlog of pending refill requests has fallen significantly.
  • Rural households will now be able to request refills on the same cadence as urban users, which should speed deliveries for many families and reduce waiting times at local distributors.
  • The change follows earlier steps this year to ease crisis controls, including restored commercial LPG supplies in June and two domestic cylinder price rises tied to the US–Iran conflict and Strait of Hormuz disruption.
