Overview
- The government notified the Central Armed Police Forces (General) Administration Act on Thursday after President Droupadi Murmu gave assent.
- The law creates one framework for hiring, promotion, deputation and service rules across the CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and SSB, replacing force-by-force systems.
- The Act fixes IPS deputation shares at senior ranks, with 50% of Inspector General posts and at least 67% of Additional Director General posts reserved for deputation, while all Special DG and DG posts come only from deputation.
- Deputation places officers from the Indian Police Service into CAPF leadership for set terms, which the government says will unify command and cut service disputes.
- The Act lets the Centre issue rules with overriding effect over conflicting laws or court rulings and preserves current financial benefits until new rules, as Opposition leaders cite a clash with the Supreme Court’s 2025 order and retired officers pursue a contempt plea.
