Centre Notifies 24 Allahabad HC Judges, Appoints Soumen Sen as Meghalaya Chief Justice

The bulk appointments follow collegium recommendations to bolster bench capacity at understaffed high courts.

  • The government has not cleared two collegium-recommended advocates for Allahabad—Adnan Ahmad and Jai Krishna Upadhyay.
  • Justice Soumen Sen of the Calcutta High Court was appointed Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court following a collegium resolution earlier this month.
  • Two advocates—Jiya Lal Bhardwaj and Romesh Verma—were appointed judges of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, while the Centre also announced leadership changes with Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma to head the Rajasthan High Court and Justice Sujoy Paul to lead the Calcutta High Court.
