Overview
- Home Minister Amit Shah chairs a 13-member group on technology and economic reforms, with Ashwini Vaishnaw as convener and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal among the members.
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh leads an 18-member panel on social, welfare and security sectors, with Mansukh Mandaviya as convener and Nitin Gadkari and Shivraj Singh Chouhan on the team.
- Both panels must file monthly updates and deliver a consolidated reform roadmap in three months, with secretarial support from the Department of Economic Affairs and the ability to invite ministers, officials and experts.
- Mandates include proposing repeals or changes to existing laws and preparing draft enabling legislation for areas such as digital health, fintech and the gig economy, alongside policy, process and institutional reforms spanning all levels of government.
- In a parallel track, the Centre has constituted two Rajiv Gauba-led committees of secretaries, technocrats and economists that held their first meeting and will coordinate with the Shah- and Singh-led panels, while a separate state deregulation effort is chaired by Cabinet Secretary TVS Swaminathan.
