Overview
- The Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry approved the transfer of 215,189 sq m (53.174 acres) of salt land on a 99-year lease for ₹12.89 crore for the Dahisar–Bhayandar link.
- The ministry’s letter restricts use of the land to the DBLR, bars future transfer of ownership, and requires the transferee to handle any related legal cases.
- Union minister Piyush Goyal said the project will proceed in two parts, with BMC handling Dahisar to Bhayandar and MMRDA responsible for Bhayandar to Vasai Creek.
- Transport minister Pratap Sarnaik said the clearance removes a major obstacle, with officials projecting roughly three years for completion and claiming a Nariman Point–Mira Bhayandar commute of about 30 minutes via the coastal corridor.
- Media reports cite Larsen & Toubro as the winning bidder after a 2022 tender process, with costs reported around ₹3,000–₹3,304 crore, and BMC funding its stretch; the alignment was revised inland after fishermen opposed an earlier shoreline route.
