Centre Extends AFSPA for Six Months in Parts of Manipur, Arunachal and Nagaland

The Home Ministry issued fresh ‘disturbed area’ notifications following a security review.

Overview

  • The orders take effect on October 1, 2025 and remain in force until March 31, 2026 unless withdrawn earlier.
  • In Arunachal Pradesh, Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts and the Namsai, Mahadevpur and Chowkham police station areas in Namsai district were designated as disturbed.
  • In Manipur, the entire state was declared a disturbed area except for the jurisdictions of 13 police stations across five valley districts.
  • In Nagaland, the designation was extended in nine districts and in 21 police station limits across five additional districts.
  • AFSPA enables armed forces to conduct operations and make arrests without a warrant in notified areas with legal protection for actions taken in good faith.
