Overview
- In Manipur, the entire state was declared a disturbed area except for 13 police-station jurisdictions across Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching.
- The extensions take effect on October 1 for six months unless withdrawn earlier, according to Home Ministry notifications.
- In Nagaland, the law continues in nine districts and within 21 police-station areas across five other districts after a government review.
- In Arunachal Pradesh, AFSPA remains in force in Tirap, Changlang and Longding, and in areas under the Namsai, Mahadevpur and Chowkham police stations.
- The 1958 Act grants armed forces broad powers, a stance officials say is necessary for security as Manipur remains under President’s Rule and local groups press for full withdrawal.
