Centre Clears Rs 707.97 Crore for Assam, Gujarat Flood Relief, Plus Rs 903.67 Crore for Fire Services

The Home Ministry’s high-level panel drew on the NDRF with a 50% SDRF balance adjustment, extending a rule‑bound push that lifts this year’s disaster spending.

Overview

  • A High-Level Committee chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah approved Rs 707.97 crore from the NDRF for 2024 floods and landslides, allocating Rs 313.69 crore to Assam and Rs 394.28 crore to Gujarat.
  • The panel sanctioned Rs 903.67 crore to upgrade fire services in Haryana (Rs 117.19 crore), Madhya Pradesh (Rs 397.54 crore) and Rajasthan (Rs 388.94 crore), including Rs 676.33 crore as central assistance.
  • All releases are subject to adjustment of 50% of each state’s opening balance in the State Disaster Response Fund, in line with Ministry rules.
  • In FY 2025–26 so far, the Centre has disbursed Rs 13,603.20 crore under SDRF, Rs 2,024.04 crore under NDRF, Rs 4,571.30 crore from SDMF and Rs 372.09 crore from NDMF.
  • The new approvals follow the October 2 sanction of Rs 1,270.78 crore to Assam for recovery and reconstruction tied to the 2022 floods and landslides.
