Centre Clears Rs 4,645 Crore Disaster Projects for Nine States as Kerala Criticises Wayanad Aid

A focus on wetlands and urban flood control leaves Kerala protesting a limited Wayanad grant.

  • An Amit Shah–led High-Level Committee approved Rs 4,645.60 crore for mitigation, recovery and reconstruction across Assam, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.
  • Assam will get a Rs 692.05 crore wetlands restoration plan covering 24 sites in the Brahmaputra basin on a 75:25 Centre–state share to boost flood storage, resilience and fisheries.
  • Urban Flood Risk Management Programme Phase-2 was cleared for 11 cities, including Thiruvananthapuram and Guwahati, with a Rs 2,444.42 crore outlay on a 90:10 Centre–state basis.
  • A dedicated Rs 200 crore package for Guwahati will fund interlinking of water bodies, stormwater systems, floodwalls, erosion control, nature‑based solutions and early warning tools.
  • Kerala received Rs 260.56 crore for Wayanad’s 2024 landslide recovery against a Rs ~2,219 crore request, drawing criticism from state and opposition leaders, while Revenue Minister K. Rajan said rehabilitation will proceed using state resources, including CMDRF, budgeted funds and a repayable loan, with key housing and infrastructure targets set for early 2026.
