Centre Clears Goa’s First Veterinary College for 2026–27 Intake

The permit is provisional for two years under Veterinary Council oversight.

Overview

  • The Centre issued a Letter of Permission Tuesday for the Goa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Curti in Ponda to open in 2026–27 with 40 B.V.Sc. & A.H. seats.
  • The institute will be affiliated to Goa University, giving local students an in‑state path to become veterinarians, a move the chief minister says will also strengthen animal health services.
  • Joint Commissioner Vikram Singh Vashisht granted the approval on Veterinary Council of India advice after inspectors found the proposed campus met required norms.
  • The state must appoint regular teaching faculty before admissions and keep infrastructure, clinical facilities, and livestock herds at levels set by the Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education rules.
  • The permission applies to the first two academic years, with VCI planning follow‑up inspections and the option to withdraw approval if the college falls short.
