Centre Assigns NCERT All-India Equivalence Role for Class 10 and 12 Board Certificates

An e-Gazette order dated September 6 moves the function from the AIU to NCERT via PARAKH.

Overview

  • The Department of School Education and Literacy published the notification in the e-Gazette on September 6, 2025.
  • The order supersedes the November 15, 2021 notification that had vested equivalence decisions in the Association of Indian Universities.
  • NCERT will execute the role through PARAKH, the national assessment centre created under the National Education Policy 2020.
  • Equivalence granted by NCERT will be valid nationwide for higher-education admissions and recruitment under the Centre, states and Union Territories.
  • The framework applies to central, state and recognised private school boards established by statute or government mandate, ensuring inter-board parity and smoother student mobility.
