Overview
- The government will purchase 3.51 lakh metric tonnes of summer Moong and 1.23 lakh metric tonnes of Urad in Madhya Pradesh and has cleared Urad procurement in Uttar Pradesh under the PSS.
- The minimum support price for summer Moong has been raised to ₹8,768 per quintal for the 2025-26 season and Urad has been set at ₹7,800 per quintal.
- Under the Price Support Scheme, state production of Tur, Urad and Masur can be procured up to 100 percent, safeguarding farmer incomes when market rates slump.
- Direct buying through NAFED and NCCF will use advanced registration technologies and expanded collection centres to cut out intermediaries and ensure transparency.
- Officials acknowledge the move will strain the central budget but say it fulfills the government’s commitment to farmers following protests over halted purchases due to contamination concerns.
