Overview

  • Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya chaired virtual meetings on July 14–15 with state labour and industry ministers to drive the ELI scheme.
  • Ministers from Gujarat, Assam, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Arunachal Pradesh agreed to integrate their local employment programmes with the central scheme and to organise district-level outreach.
  • The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation is upgrading its digital infrastructure to enable Aadhaar-linked direct benefit transfers ahead of the August 1 launch.
  • The ₹99,446-crore scheme targets the formalisation of over 3.5 crore jobs nationwide in two years by offering defined incentives to first-time employees and to employers for net new hirings.
  • Incentive payouts will begin after six months of continuous employment, alongside mandatory financial literacy training and social security enrolment, with extended support for manufacturing hires.
