Central Railway’s Karjat Yard Overhaul Triggers Sept. 30 Local Cancellations, Pune Route Test Set for Oct. 12

The overhaul targets higher capacity through track realignments, OHE portals, electronic interlocking, longer platforms.

Overview

  • Central Railway’s coordinated maintenance block across Mumbai runs from September 26 to October 10, affecting both suburban and long‑distance services with daytime and nighttime traffic restrictions.
  • Four suburban services on the KarjatKhopoli route are cancelled on September 30 to facilitate yard remodelling at Karjat, according to CR officials.
  • Additional special blocks at Karjat on October 1 (11:20 am–5:20 pm) and October 2 (11:00 am–3:30 pm) will halt suburban services between Karjat and Khopoli and will regulate select mail and express trains.
  • A 12‑hour testing window on October 12 for signalling, tracks and points will suspend train movements to and from Pune before commissioning of the upgraded systems.
  • The project extends yard lines beyond 800 metres, enables 24‑coach platforms and longer freight rakes of 48–50 wagons, with CR indicating average waits could drop from five–seven minutes to about two–three minutes.
