Central Railway Vigilance Seizes Rs 6 Lakh of Banned Tobacco at Mumbai Terminus

The Railway Protection Force will investigate the intercepted shipment after a tip-off revealed how the parcel system can be used to traffic banned goods.

  • The Vigilance Department intercepted the consignment on August 13 at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus after a specific tip-off triggered surveillance.
  • Inspection revealed 10 packages weighing a total of 564 kg containing flavoured chewing tobacco, pan masala and other prohibited products valued at approximately Rs 6 lakh.
  • The shipment, booked from Gonda on Train No. 11056 (Godan Express), was monitored by teams positioned ahead of its arrival to oversee unloading.
  • Officials opened the packages in the presence of the Chief Parcel Supervisor, then transferred the goods to the Railway Protection Force for criminal investigation.
  • Central Railway lauded the vigilance operation as part of its broader crackdown on illicit consignments moved through parcel booking services.
