Endorsed by the Indian Railways Conference Association, the update aligns railway nomenclature with local administrative changes ahead of a planned reservation system outage.

Overview

  • The Central Railway announced on May 30 that Usmanabad station has been officially renamed Dharashiv and assigned the new code DRSV in place of UMD.
  • The Indian Railways Conference Association approved the name and code change following a request from the Maharashtra government.
  • Mumbai’s Passenger Reservation System will be offline from 11:45 pm to 1:30 am on June 1, 2025, to implement the change.
  • The renaming follows the state’s earlier decision to rename Osmanabad city and district to Dharashiv as part of a broader administrative overhaul.
  • The shift reflects a move from honoring a 20th-century Hyderabad ruler to recognizing the region’s 8th-century Dharashiv cave complex.
