Overview
- Central Railway flagged off the inaugural CSMT–Sawantwadi Road service on Thursday, Sept 3, and says the train will run daily with a formal regular timetable to be notified separately.
- The inaugural special (no. 01001) operated as an overnight service from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus to Sawantwadi Road and used a 17‑coach LHB rake.
- Central Railway published the coach mix as one AC First Class, two AC 2‑tier, three AC 3‑tier, four sleeper, four general second class coaches, one second seating‑cum‑guard’s brake van and one generator van.
- The train will stop at a wide set of Konkan stations including Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Roha, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavli, Sindhudurg, Kudal and Sawantwadi Road to give direct Mumbai access to Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts.
- Union and state ministers at the flag‑off highlighted related rail works such as Konkan electrification, plans for an east–west corridor and increased suburban capacity, and officials said the service should ease pressure on other Konkan trains and boost tourism, trade and festival travel.
