Central Railway Cancels Sunday Mega Block After Backlash Over Festival Disruptions

The reversal follows criticism of daytime maintenance that would have curtailed access to key Ganeshotsav routes.

Overview

  • Central Railway said all Main and Harbour Line suburban services will run as scheduled on August 31 after scrapping the planned daytime block.
  • The cancelled plan had slated slow-line closures between CSMT and Vidyavihar from 10:55 am to 3:55 pm and a KurlaVashi suspension from 11:10 am to 4:10 pm.
  • Earlier notices indicated halts at Currey Road and Chinchpokli would be unavailable during the block, drawing complaints from commuters visiting major pandals.
  • Western Railway confirmed no daytime disruption on Sunday and will proceed with an overnight jumbo block at Mumbai Central from 12:30 am to 4:00 am.
  • Central Railway announced festival night special suburban trains in early September on Main and Harbour corridors to support Ganpati travel and immersions.
