Central Railway Cancels Sunday Daytime Mega Block, Adds Night Trains for Ganeshotsav

The reversal responds to festival travel needs as crowds head to major Ganpati pandals.

Overview

  • Central Railway issued an official notice stating all suburban services will run as scheduled on Sunday, August 31, on the Main and Harbour lines.
  • Western Railway confirmed no daytime block on Sunday and will proceed with an overnight jumbo block at Mumbai Central from 12:30 am to 4:00 am for maintenance.
  • CR’s scrapped plan had targeted the CSMTVidyavihar slow lines and the KurlaVashi Harbour stretch, with diversions, cancellations, and skipped halts at Currey Road and Chinchpokli highlighted as a concern for devotees.
  • To aid festival travel, CR announced special late-night suburban trains on September 4/5, 5/6, and 6/7 between CSMT and Kalyan/Thane, and on the night of September 6/7 between CSMT and Panvel, with stops at all stations.
  • Resident groups and commuters criticized the original timing during Ganeshotsav, echoing earlier complaints after an August 9 maintenance block on Raksha Bandhan.
