Central Florida Storms Could Force Repeated Theme-Park Closures This Weekend

Meteorologists say sporadic rain and thunderstorm cells will continue through the weekend with storm odds rising into the early afternoon and daytime highs near 90 degrees.
Park operators use lightning-detection rules that immediately shut outdoor and partly outdoor rides when lightning is detected inside a set radius and require a cleared interval before reopening.
An earlier summer severe storm showed the scale of possible disruption when lightning forced more than 20 attractions to close across Walt Disney World, including 11 at Magic Kingdom, and multiple closures at EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom.
Water parks such as Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach and Universal’s Volcano Bay are especially vulnerable and often close slides and pools sooner and for longer than dry-land attractions.
Guests should monitor My Disney Experience or the Universal app for live ride status, prioritize indoor alternatives, build schedule flexibility, and consider shifting key attractions to later park days since conditions are forecast to ease by midweek.
