Overview

  • Silvia Salis captured the Genoa mayoralty with 51.48% of the vote in the first round under a broad center-left coalition.
  • Alessandro Barattoni won Ravenna in the first round with over 58% as a divided center-right opposition faltered.
  • Runoffs on June 8–9 will pit center-left Piero Bitetti against civic candidate Francesco Tacente in Taranto and set up a head-to-head contest between Roberto Cifarelli and Antonio Nicoletti in Matera.
  • The M5S has announced it will not endorse either candidate in the Matera runoff, leaving its roughly 8% share of first-round votes uncommitted.
  • Elly Schlein credited coalition unity for the wins, calling them a boost for upcoming referendums on work and citizenship and for center-left momentum ahead of the 2027 national elections.
