• A 27-year-old patient’s heart and lungs failed ahead of a scheduled surgery due to disease complications, triggering the decision to deploy ECMO as a last-resort measure.
• A 15-member multidisciplinary team of cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiologists, intensive care specialists, perfusionists and specialized nurses carried out the complex implantation.
• This marked the first use of an ECMO system in Aguascalientes, reducing the region’s dependence on private hospitals for high-complexity care.
• Governor Tere Jiménez’s health equity agenda ensured the procedure was provided free of charge to an uninsured patient.
