Ceiling Collapse at Palermo OSECAC Clinic Injures At Least Six

Investigators are probing whether adjacent construction contributed to the failure after the clinic was evacuated.

Overview

  • Two plasterboard ceiling panels fell in a first-floor waiting and consultory area during morning operating hours on Medrano in Palermo.
  • A large response deployed about 22 SAME ambulances along with City Firefighters, the Special Rescue Group and K-9 teams, and the building was fully evacuated.
  • A final inspection by firefighters confirmed no one remained inside the facility following the evacuation.
  • SAME director Alberto Crescenti reported six people injured and out of danger, while some outlets cited up to eleven injured as counts were reconciled.
  • Several patients were treated on site and others were transferred to the Durand, Fernández, Ramos Mejía and Rivadavia hospitals as structural assessments continue.
