Ceará Fuel Sweep Cites Seven Stations for Abusive Pricing

The national sweep led by the Justice Ministry has prompted consumer police to open probes.

Overview

  • Procon said Wednesday it cited seven gas stations for abusive pricing in the interior of Ceará during the Consumo Seguro operation.
  • Inspectors visited 13 stations across Itapipoca, Tianguá, Viçosa, Canindé and Baturité with support from the Civil Police and the state weights-and-measures institute, IPEM.
  • In Itapipoca, IPEM found leaks in fuel pump meters at two stations, which can make customers receive less fuel than the display shows.
  • The Consumer Protection Police (Delecon) will investigate possible crimes against the economic order after the irregularities and formal complaints.
  • The sweep runs through Thursday, and cited stations must present invoices and pricing records, which could lead to fines or further action if they cannot justify recent price increases.
