CDU Politician Erwin Rüddel Dies Unexpectedly at 69

Erwin Rüddel, a CDU Bundestag member for 15 years, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of February 3, 2025, at the age of 69.
The cause of death was reported as a pulmonary embolism, just days after Rüddel completed a 10-kilometer run and shared concerns about his energy levels following a recent diet.
Rüddel represented the Neuwied constituency in Rheinland-Pfalz and was known for his work in health and elder care policy, including chairing the Bundestag's Health Committee.
He retired from the Bundestag at the end of January and had planned to attend the CDU party convention in Berlin, where his death was announced by CDU leader Friedrich Merz.
