CDMX Reports 164 Sinkholes This Year as Zaragoza Repair Nears Finish

City engineers say repairs target underlying drainage failures through excavation with collector replacement.

Overview

  • Officials counted 164 sinkholes in 2025, with 43 on the primary network and 121 on secondary routes, and report intervention at more than 75 percent of sites.
  • On primary roads, 24 of 43 cases have been resolved and 19 are under repair, while secondary routes show 97 of 121 addressed with 24 in progress, according to Segiagua.
  • Segiagua stated it is handling all cases on both networks, providing direct support to alcaldías for incidents on secondary streets.
  • The Calzada Ignacio Zaragoza site is in its final stage with concrete box and new piping installed, and Segiagua says it should be ready by Sunday.
  • Night repaving and pothole work has treated 110 kilometers of roadway, repaired 2,194 potholes, and rehabilitated 27,611 square meters, authorities said, with in-process sinkhole works targeted for completion within 15 days.
