CDMX Opens Holiday Plant Drop-Offs as Municipal Programs Expand

Collected trees and poinsettias will be turned into compost to restore urban green areas, cutting landfill use.

Overview

  • Mexico City’s environment ministry activated multiple collection sites from January 6 through mid-February, including Bosque de San Juan de Aragón (Tue–Sun, 8:00–14:00) and Parque Ecológico de Xochimilco (Tue–Sun in January, 10:00–16:00), with a Mercado de Trueque event on January 11.
  • Additional nightblooming-only drop-offs operate through January at the CCA Yautlica (Iztapalapa), CCA Ecoguardas (Tlalpan) and CCA Acuexcomatl (Xochimilco), and a Mercado de Trueque in Parque Tezozómoc is scheduled for February 8.
  • SEDEMA instructs residents to deliver items free of decorations and contaminants, removing plastics, lights, cables, nails, papers and any non-organic materials to enable efficient processing.
  • Escobedo, Nuevo León, opened nine municipal centers on January 5, with collected pines shredded for compost to maintain local parks and gardens.
  • Ecatepec’s “Recicla y Transforma” program begins February 7 from 10:00 to 14:00 at several municipal sites, offering a nursery plant to participants as an incentive.
