- The registration process opened July 1 and remains active as Semovi urges owners to sign up before sanctions in the new rules take effect.
- Owners must start the online 'Alta de Vehículo Eléctrico Personal' through LLAVE CDMX and upload an ID, a vehicle invoice or proof of ownership, the CFDI XML file and a CDMX address proof no older than 90 days.
- Semovi separates vehicles into VEMEPE (250 W–1 kW, can exceed 25 km/h; Type A under 35 kg, Type B 35–350 kg) and VEP (under 250 W, max 25 km/h), with different credentials and permissions for each class.
- After online review and email validation applicants pay fees and attend a Módulo de Control Vehicular with original documents to receive plates, a tarjeta de circulación and/or the Distintivo de Movilidad Eléctrica (DME); a distributor-fed vehicle catalog on the platform helps identify models.
- Uptake has been slow with roughly 1,000 vehicles registered against an estimated more than 200,000 in the city, so Semovi plans outreach and more modules to raise compliance and to enforce visible plates/DME, route limits and safety gear requirements.
