CDC: 95 Salmonella Cases Across 14 States Tied to Country Eggs Recall

FDA traceback to Country Eggs led to a recall of CA-7695 cartons, triggering a production halt.

Overview

  • Country Eggs LLC recalled large brown cage-free "Sunshine Yolks" and "Omega-3 Golden Yolks" eggs sold under Nagatoshi Produce, Misuho and Nijiya Markets.
  • Affected cartons carry code CA-7695 with sell-by dates from July 1 through Sept. 16 and were distributed to retailers and food-service distributors in California and Nevada.
  • The CDC reports 95 illnesses in at least 14 states, including 73 in California, with 18 hospitalizations and no deaths to date.
  • Illnesses began in January and continued through late July, with a surge from mid-June to mid-July, and officials say totals may grow due to reporting delays.
  • Consumers should discard or return the eggs and wash hands and sanitize surfaces after contact as the FDA and CDC continue the investigation.
