CD Projekt Red Targets 2028 Release for The Witcher 4

The studio says Ciri will lead a large narrative saga built by more than 500 developers, signaling a staged promotion that puts new Witcher 3 DLC ahead of the sequel.

Overview

  • CD Projekt Red confirmed on Monday that The Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 release window, the first broad launch timetable the studio has given for the sequel.
  • The developer said the game will center on Ciri and called it its biggest and most ambitious project, with more than 500 people working on a huge open world and action-focused gameplay for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
  • CD Projekt Red will not show The Witcher 4 at Gamescom 2026 and will instead spotlight The Witcher 3 expansion Songs of the Past, which the company says is due in 2027 and will be a major part of its Gamescom presence.
  • Earlier in August the company confirmed layoffs affecting staff on Project Siris, a multiplayer spinoff, a move that illustrates resource shifts and helps explain the studio’s cautious use of the word “targeting” for the 2028 window.
  • The announcement follows the game’s 2024 reveal and means fans should expect more Witcher 3 content and periodic updates before a final Witcher 4 date is set, while remaining aware that the 2028 target could change.
