CCTV Shows Train Hitting Truck at Dutch Crossing as Weekend Repairs Disrupt Service

ProRail says roughly a kilometre of damaged track must be replaced, with crews working through the weekend.

Overview

  • A high-speed passenger train struck a pear-laden lorry trapped on a secured level crossing in Meteren around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
  • Five people in the truck suffered minor injuries, and passengers were safely evacuated to Den Bosch with no injuries reported.
  • ProRail released the CCTV to warn drivers and urged those stuck on crossings to drive through barriers or evacuate to safety.
  • About one kilometre of track needs replacing, and services between Geldermalsen and Den Bosch are suspended with buses and rerouting via Arnhem.
  • The cause of why the truck could not clear the crossing is under investigation as crews continue clean-up of the spilled cargo.
